Maybe not.
Actually I am not sure.
I am a person who believes that being honest is very important in every relationship and follow it to the book.
There have been many times when I wished I hadnt really been so truthful upfront about how I was feeling about something or someone.I am not someone who keeps things in my heart and buries my feelings. If I am happy you would know, if I am not, you would definetely know.
I follow this with not jus friends but everyone, even the stranger on the road would know how I am feeling just by looking at me.A couple of times I have been asked "Are you alright? Do you need a tissue?" by strangers who happen to see me wanderin aimlessly and tears rolling down my cheek cos of somethins I was feeling down about. I would sheepishly mumble "No thanks.I am ok" desperately hoping they thought I was down with a cold. When the tears came, I have no idea!
My friends would know immediately if I didnt like something or was angry about something, the same way they would if I was happy or I wanted to tell them how much they mean to me.They also seem to know if I am trying to lie about "being ok".I end up explaining to everybody whats wrong, just so that they wont feel bad. This way, everyone seems to know wats happening in my life, whether I want it or not.Is this much honesty really needed??
This has often made me wonder, is it a good thing or a bad thing that I cant hide my feelings.Something I havent been able to decide.
Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.Like those you can call at 4 am,it is those who read every crappy thing you write that matter. Here's to my friends!!Cheers

Banned Dancing
“You can be arrested for dancing. You also cannot play music that provokes dancing. We have had to put sofas and fill spaces to prevent customers from dancing,”
This is an excerpt from an article I found through Lehmunde’s blog. I just simply burst out laughing when I read the article. A new law ‘Licensing and Controlling of Public Entertainment (Bangalore City) Order, 2005,’ has been passed and has been enforced in discotheques, bars, restaurants, and cabarets. (I think they missed out on the streets, homes, schools, cinema theatres…).
The Deputy Commissioner of Police feels that “The new law is for the good of the people. Why should people stay out late and spoil their own health.” Geez, I did not know that they really cared so much about people’s health and well-being. I am so touched.
But really the statement that takes the cake is : *…drum rolls…*
“DJs have been prevented from playing music at nightspots as they incite people to dance. Night clubs have been told to play classical music, so people do not dance”
Considering that some music is always playing in my head and my feet cant ever be still no matter what or where I am, I will definitely be arrested if I go to Bangalore.I am sure all the “dancaholics” out there will agree with me that this is absolutely crazy!

Dumb founded
I woke up in the morning cos my throat was hurting very badly. It felt as if some one had replaced it with a hard dry rock.I cant speak, I cant swallow.More than anything its an irritating feeling.
Being the chatterbox I am, I cant stay 5 mins without talking.I like to deal with my users over the phone or in person rather than the impersonal e-mail.Now I cant do that.I am thakful though that this should only be so for today and at max tomo.
I wonder what people used to do, when they got a throat infection, before technology brought about SMS and e-mail.Communication must have been so painful, literally.

Kannathil Muthamital
"You are the beginning of life
as well as the horizon where the sky ends
Like the wind you came,
You stayed as my every breath
You are the life inside me"
This is a direct translation of a few lines from the title song of the tamil movie "Kannathil Muthamital" (she gave a kiss on the cheek).Quite often movie songs show love as an emotion shared by two lovers. In this song, the love is between a guy and a girl also; the song expresses how the guy really feels about the girl.He is the father and the girl, his adopted daughter.
Everytime I listen to this song, something stirs inside,it touches a cord deep in my heart.I feel like just closing my eyes and listening to the song over and over.Maybe its the raagam (tune) or the meaning behind the touching words, maybe its the way the singer sings it.All of a sudden,I get irritated with the lyricist on how he can depict love so eloquently and make my heart melt.I hear the next verse and wonder how the singer is able to convey the meaning so passionately that he makes me want to cry. Then I feel irritated with myself, for being irritated. Then I go back to listening to the song.I feel transported to somewhere else.Nothing matters anymore. When the song ends and I enter reality, all I want to do is play it over again!

Corrected Point
"I dont think what I did was wrong"
I heard this from someone I know.It got me thinking about how we set our own moral standards and a self-made system of what we feel is 'right or wrong', by which we live our lives.
There is a difference between having this system and imposing it.Just because you think you did no wrong does not mean that the other person needs to think so too.It doesnt make your action correct either.
Someone once told me there are always 3 angles to every arguement.Your point, your opposition's point and the correct point.
Quite often, we get stuck in the rut that ours is the correct point. The other person will also be feeling his is the correct point. We forget that on the other side is someone we love and someone who matters.By imposing our moral system on the other person, quite often, we end up hurting the other person and the relationship.

My Inspiration
She is one of the gifts I got for Rakhsha Bandhan this year.

Her name is 'Pixie'.I cant stop looking her face. Her innocent eyes are filled with hope and love. She is the personification for the word spirit, as if full of unlimited enthusiasm and energy.Encouraging me to be just the same. When I see her there, my day gets brightened, my tensions seems to vanish, as if I have just been given a comforting hug.She has the words "Your Spirit is an Inspiration" written on her stand. And inspiration she is to me!
I ask not for anything more
But for you to be just the same
As you have always been for me
To my Dearest Brother,
All I want to say is Thank You, for everything.

Of names and nicknames
This post was not meant to make fun of or offend any one
How often has this happened. You are with a close friend and you bump into another friend and you intorduce the two of them "Hey meet so and so". Suddenly you get a sharp stare from the friend you just introduced and a bewildered look on the other person's face. You introduced your friend by his nickname.
Yup, happens a lot to me.I like calling my friends by their nicknames (if they have) and quite often (not always) tend to introduce them by the same name without realising that is not their official name.
We all know people who are called by nicknames or pet names or any other name apart from their actual or official name.
Quite often for the sake of convenience or out of sheer laziness, I tend to chop off a person's name into 2 and add a 'z' to the first half of the name like 'Divya' becomes 'Divz'.There are times when it is absolutely impossible to call someone by their full name each time.
Indian names arent exactly easy to pronounce especially when living in a foreign country, so a lot of my friends fashioned a new, easier and usually mono- or di-syllabic word.
Like my friend A_____ K_______, found that his name was always mispronounced by the local S'poreans so he decided to introduce himself as 'AK'.This got changed to 'AK47' by people, as a joke (I think it suits his temper). These days he is known in the blogosphere as 'AyeKay'
I know batch mates who got called by names like 'chill' or 'ferdi', names which they acquired due to some circumstances or events, and it stuck through. Many times other people did not even know they had 'real names'.
I have another friend who never gets called by his actual name.He doesnt even know how his nickname came about and he hates his nickname. All the more reason for us to continue calling him by it, jus to annoy him.But even if I make a conscious effort, I just cant get used to calling him by his official name.
I have had a few myself, none of them stayed though.Though the one I distinctly remember is my secondary school guys used to call me "Dante's Peak", because they could never make out when I was gonna lose my temper.

Weekend Getaway
My office had our annual teambuilding for the whole department over the weekend. This year it was at Bintan, a small Indonesian island about an hour away from S'pore.
It was my first teambuilding since I joined last year, added to the fact that I had never been to Bintan either.I was very excited!
Walking around the beach at night, endlessly chitchattin, pullin each other's legs, playing pingpong and beach volleyball,oh my god, the number of activities were endless.
But to me the highlights of my trip were,my first kayaking experience and gettin up early morning to catch the sunrise.
Initially I was so worried about even gettin into the kayak.I kept shouting over my shoulder to my partner that I did not want to go too far fm the shore. But as much as I was tensed,an element of thrill was nudging me to take the risk of going 'jus a little further'.By the end I was telling my partner lets go further away. But it was so awesome, (not the arm and shoulder pain that followed though). However,my excitement and contentment still outlasted the pain. I have already decided to make plans with another friend to go kayaking in S'pore.
To catch the sunrise, I had woken up at about 6 am on sunday morning and gone to the beach with another colleague.I had been looking forward to it that I was determined to go no matter what happened or who came. The beach was empty, the whole resort felt lifeless with not a soul walking around. But all I cared about was the sunrise.Oh and it was so spectacular.Slowly the sun woke up and stretched out and its rays gently waking everything it touched, making everything so beautiful and alive.A strange warmth spread inside me as I silently sat.The momentary silence which broke the rythmic sound of the rise and fall of the waves.I dont know how long.My mind was blank, there were no thoughts, no worries, nothing.I took a long stroll to the other end of the beach and back. The small waves kept washing past my feet, as if teasing me.What an experience it was.

Alternate Universe?
After a long time, yesterday I had a free evening, with absolutely nothing planned.Normally, I would think of going to esplanade and sitting there with a book and reading for sometime. But instead I decided to just go home!
On my way home I made a small detour to the nearby Macdonalds and sat there reading for about half an hour (simply couldnt resist reading, especially since I had borrowed a R.K.Narayan book from a friend)
I was home fairly early, much to the surprise of my mom.For a change, both my grandmothers were at my home and doing what they do every night, watching the soap operas that come on Sun TV!My father and me love to poke fun of all the soaps and pass sarcastic comments during the shows.Anyways, since I was home early, both of them started fussing over me.Of course it felt good to be spoilt, that too by two grandmas! They started telling stories from the distant past ("You know,I remember when I was a little girl...") to the not so distant past ("I remember when you were a little girl...") to the near-present past ("You are all grown up now...").We were all laughing and talking, and before I knew it, 3 hours had already passed.
As I was getting ready for bed, I realised how long it had been since I actually got to sit at home and talk to my family and spend time with them.I felt as if I have been living in a different world altogether, an alternate universe, where I seem to always be rushing to some class or meeting up with some friend.
I guess its back to living in a my alternate universe for me.Once in a while I get to visit my home planet.

New Things
When I graduated last year, I was thinking to myself that I should make an effort to do something new and exciting to keep my mind occupied. It need not be extravagant but something that makes me go "Oh I have done that..." or "I have been there"
10 new things I have done since I completed my Bachelors in 2004
1.Took up a job, started my life as a working adult (probably the most unexpected thing that happened to me was getting the job offer from this company)
2.Went backpacking in Australia,(although technically it doesnt count cos it was too short a time frame, but hey who cares!)
3.Started Swimming for improving my ankle muscles (well I also found it very relaxing after a hard day's work, so decided to continue more regularly)
4.Restarted Bharatnatyam after my 'break' (Probably the best decision I ever took!)
5.Took up Tap Dancing and Odissi (my yearn for exploring various dance forms got the better of me and my time)
6.Started Blogging (actually I started this with the intention of keeping a log of all my travel)
7.Went to HK (on work of course. I definitely want to head back there again if possible, even if its on work, I don’t mind)
8.Trip to India (and wow was it a hectic packed one!)
9.Trip to USA (am so glad I impulsively decided to go anyways. Managed to meet up with family and cousins whom I otherwise meet once in many years)
10.Started my part time Masters course (and getting used to the Shuttling between Expo and NTU and home)
*Angelsera looks her list*
She is quite pleased with herself after completing the list. She feels good to have at least made a little attempt to not let her desires be mere wishful thinking in her head.Angelsera will give herself a treat later in the day.yippee!

Chocolate Disaster
The 1970s movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was a dream come true for many kids, including me.It made imaginations run wild as the scenes unfolded with the factory and the magical way in which chocolate was said to be created, with songs that pleasant and apt for the situation and movie. This is a movie I must have watched at least 2 times a day for 5 years!I dont mind watching it yet another time.
I went to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory y'day.I came out with a feeling of absolute disappointment.I did not expect Willy Wonka to be so lame! The movie was nothing compared to its 1970 version.I didnt even feel like eating chocolate after that.
So much for the much awaited wait

Embarassing Moments
I had a performance on saturday, at the Marina Bay Carnival. There is one section called the 'Global Village' where the embassies/High Comms of some countries have set up booths to promote tourism.
Since we were dancing on behalf of the Indian Tourism Board, and partially also because we were very colourfully dressed up,they wanted us dancers to come to the booth when the President of Singapore came by.The other girls were changing so I was the only one who went.
The President came and he was as usual very polite and asking everyone which part of India they were from.I was so nervous (I have no idea why!). I had my hands folded in Namaste. I smiled and gave a small bow to him, then suddenly, I extended my hand for a handshake.I think even he got confused as to what I was doing, because he didnt extend his hand. The seconds seemed to tick on very slowly. Now I wasnt sure what to do,because everyone was looking in our direction.
Before I could realise it,I had reached out and taken the President's hand and shook it, as if it was perfectly normal.I imagined a huge hammer repeatedly hitting my head until I disappeared below the ground.Nonetheless, he smiled and asked where I was from. I hurriedly said 'Bombay'.I was sure I was in trouble.I kept repeating to myself, 'Tu toh gayi bachi'.He went round and came back saying 'Thank You' to everyone. This time he was prepared for any sudden reactions from me.As soon as I said namaste, he immediately extended his hand and smiled.I was so flustered I could feel the heat from my cheeks.
I am not sure which was more embarrasing!I was so glad my face was hidden behind thick make up.

Just a thought
If there is one word that can describe each and every human being on this planet, then it has to be 'unique'
What do you think?
What do you think?

Quotable Quotes
"Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some; it is in everyone. And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

"I know what you're thinking... Did I fire six shots or only five? To tell you the truth, I forgot it myself in all this excitement.
This here's a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and it can blow your head clean off. Now, you must ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?
Well, do you, punk? "

"I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free. "

"Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me? "
--Mae West
"I know what you're thinking... Did I fire six shots or only five? To tell you the truth, I forgot it myself in all this excitement.
This here's a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and it can blow your head clean off. Now, you must ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?
Well, do you, punk? "
--Dirty Harry
"You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."
The man with no name (Clint Eastwood),
--The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
"I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free. "
