What Advanced Degree Should You Get?

I simply burst out laughing when I read this.Firstly my masters is bio-medical engineering.Secondly I was very particular that I wanted to take my masters project (dissertation) in the field of cancer, especially after having worked in cancer diagnosis for my final year project for Bachelors. My new job will also be on cancer diagnosis.Lastly I hope to be able to do my Phd soon also.

Looks like I am on the right path ;)

You Should Get a PhD in Science (like chemistry, math, or engineering)

You're both smart and innovative when it comes to ideas.
Maybe you'll find a cure for cancer - or develop the latest underground drug.

You have been sorted!

Congratulations on making Gryffindor!

Basically, you're brave, daring, chivalrous, and pretty much.. an all around good person. Of course, some see you as a goodie-two-shoes. But hey, it's true! You're really good at winning, and normally always come out as the hero. Everybody likes you.. except, maybe, the Slytherins. You're too perfect. No, really.. You're too perfect. It's annoying to watch you win, repeatedly. Oh well. Be proud anyway.

Gryffindors to Remember:

Harry Potter

Ron Weasley

The whole Weasley family

Hermione Granger

Albus Dumbledore

Truly the Bluffmaster

Awesome movie!Must see for anyone who loves one liners. Good acting and a smart storyline.I had read Virdi's post on the movie and just felt like going. But I had not really thought it would be so good.I am at loss for words.I truly enjoyed myself and laughed my guts out.AB jr and Nana Patekar stole the show. Its one of those movies I wouldnt think twice about going again!

But there was one very serious thought which I couldnt get out of my head the whole night. There was one dialogue which went on similar lines to "Although you have lived 30 years, you will have some 30 memorable days, like the day you got your first salary, your first kiss, etc."

I went home and spent the night thinking about and reliving some of the most memorable days of my life.I realised that in my 24 years, I have many many memorable days, events, things I will always remember.Good and Bad.Wow! what a life I have had.It was at that moment I felt, if I died today, I would have no regrets.

As I Mature

Some one sent me this as a forward,I thought it was worth a second look :) Enjoy

"As I mature I've learnt that you cannot make
someone love you. All you can do is
stalk them and hope they panic and give in.

I've learnt that no matter how much I care,
some people are just assholes.

I've learnt that it takes years
to build up trust, and it only takes
suspicion, not proof, to destroy it.

I've learnt that you can get by
on charm for about fifteen minutes.
After that, you'd better have a big willy
or huge boobs.

I've learnt that you shouldn't
compare yourself to others - they are
more screwed up than you think.

I've learnt that you can keep vomiting
long after you think you're finished.

I've learnt that we are responsible
for what we do, unless we are celebrities.

I've learnt that regardless of
how hot and steamy a relationship is at
first, the passion fades, and there had better
be a lot of money to take its place!

I've learnt that 99% of the time when
something isn't working in your house, one
of your kids did it

I've learnt that the people you care most
about in life are taken from you too soon
and all the less important ones just never go away."

Officially Resigned

I heard from a lot of people that sometimes companies dont take it well when you submit your resignation.Even though I had plucked the courage to submit mine, I had done so by email to my Boss' Boss and on thursday evening and left office.Friday morning I gave my official resignation to my Boss.I was very surprised that not only were both of them very supportive of my move (when I told them the full story and the reason behind my resignation) they also even promised to allow me to leave a month early ( my office has a 3-month notice policy). It didnt take very much time for the news to spread through my department and everyone coming up to me to ask why I was leaving.

After telling the same story for zillion times to each of my colleagues I realised that many of them gave me the same reaction.A couple of them openly told me also that they were envious of me.Envious because I knew what I wanted to do with my life(at least I think I do).Envious because I had the guts to make the change.(In my head I am freaking shit scared about this). The day I gave my resignation I did not have a confirmed job, I still dont.

I am glad I did it though.I dont want to be one of those people who went to work everyday without knowing where their life was heading and one fine morning realise that they have already been working on the same thing for so many years that they cant even imagine change.

Correct decisions or Corrected decisions

I take great pride in the fact that most of the important decisions I have taken in my life are on my own.I think carefully about what I really want then work towards it. There was always a clarity as to what I wanted to do next.Very hardly I have had to 'think twice' about my decisions.

Of course, after I made up my mind I would tell my parents and ask for their opinions. Most of the time they would simply say "Beta, its your life, lead it the way you want." I always felt happy because I felt my parents trusted my judgement. Ocassionally I would also feel this pinch, like a sudden pang of anxiety that would ask "What if I am wrong?" As if he had read my mind, dad would then come over and say "Its ok if you are wrong, you will never know till you try."

Last week, I stood at crossroads again, trying to weigh the pros and cons of each road, to decide which path to take.It was probably the most difficult decision I had ever had to make in my life.I realised how lucky I have been in life because so far my decisions had not really affected anyone else except me.But it wasnt like that anymore. The decision I take will have an impact on others, those close to me, those I loved dearly.

I successfully put all my friends in an awkward position when I told them my situation. No one really knew what to tell me.Eventually everyone came to the same conclusion as me. They also did not know what I should do and I should think about it more.I felt absolutely torn and as if I had no one to turn to, no one whom I could consult, no one who could help me.

I was sitting in office, my mind totally blank.I couldnt concentrate on my work and I couldnt focus on anything.I felt as if a 'dementor' (from Harry Potter) had just passed by and sucked away all my happiness. The phone rang;I heard a familiar comforting voice of my father on the other side.

"Beta,what did he say?"

"He said I had to do it today, else it cant happen. There wont be enough time."I replied, trying to fight back my tears "But I will lose everything if I do it today!"

"Do you want to do it?"

I replied feebly "Yes...But.."

"Then do it.Sometimes in life you should not think so much.Dont make the mistake I made. Now is the best time for you."

That was enough for me.I felt as if the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders. That day I realised, that all the decisions I thought were my own, were really not my own. They were mine only because my parents made them mine. They were 'correct decisions' only because my parents stood by and supported me always. They always told me its ok to fall,as only then you will learn to pick yourself up.

One of the seven things I wanted to do before I was 30. Last thursday I went up to my Boss and submitted my resignation.

Straighforward

She walked past the door for the nth time in the year.Everytime she did, she would turn her head slightly to peek what went on inside but quickly turn it back.

'I am not interested.Really.Thats not my thing.' she told herself in desperate reassurance as she walked ahead, 'Besides the smell is sickening, makes me wanna puke.'

Sometimes she would swear to herself 'That is NOT my thing.I will never do it'

Then one day, she decided she had had enough. Her curiosity was getting the better of her and she just wanted to know what goes on there. So she stopped, turned around and marched back to the door. She wanted to go in, but her feet did not seem to listen. Her heart was racing, she was not sure what would happen next.

Slowly she stepped in.A sudden gush of wind blew past her and ceased. She stood there nervously, now that she was in, she wasnt sure what to do next.A pleasant young man walekd up to her. They exchanged a few words and he went off inside to call someone else. A yound lady came out to meet her. They talked for a little while, then the lady walked around her, her face serious and intent. The lady then directed her to a chair.Almost immediately 2 women started pulling her hair from either side. Going back and forth, hustling around, it was hard to see what they were really doing.

After 2 hours, her head felt like it was going to burst. She tried to look into the mirror but she din dare. She managed to get out of the chair where she had been sitting and walked out of the room, wondering what maddness had made her walk inside the door. Then she saw her reflection in the glass. It wasnt her....it was someone else!!!!

********************************************************************
That door belonged to a Professional hair stylist near my office. My natural hair is very curly and very frizzy and very difficult to manage.Normally I set aside at least 10 mins in the morning to patiently try and remove tangles before tying up my hair.By the end of the day it would resemble a lump of tangled noodles.

Y'day I got my hair relaxed. For the first time in my life I have done anything to my hair other than mere trimming. It took a lot of courage for me to walk in there and it burnt a BIG hole in my wallet. Why did I do it?I dont know, curiosity maybe or the fact that I just wanted a change. When I woke up this morn, I had no tangles. For the first time I let my hair down and walked into office.

As much as I was excited about all this....I now miss my curls... :(

Kuch to Hua Hai, Kuch Ho Gaya Hai

I am watching the movie 'Kal Ho Na Ho' for probably the Nth time.Yet somehow when the song "Kuch to Hua Hai" came I was smiling the whole time (yet again).Watching Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan being so happy makes me feel happy also.Makes falling love sound like some sort of fantasy.Well some may argue its a movie after all, you are supposed to feel that way.I m not sure if I have ever been in love but to me being in love would probably be as described in the song.

Birthday Chronicles

I found some old birthday sabo photographs y'day when I was cleaning a shelf and they brought back some very memorable stories of some of my birthday celebrations.

I dont remember my first birthday but according to my mom it was very grandly celebrated by them. But here are a few I do remember,

Year: 1993
We had only migrated to Singapore in 1992 and we didnt know many people.Just a few months before we had shifted to the rented apartments where we were staying then.It was a very quiet day, no celebrations or anything, mom and myself we were getting ready to go to the temple. When suddenly the only family whom we knew in that building knocked at our door, aunty had a cake in her hand and her daughter was carrying a beautiful dress in her hand. They insisted I should wear it then and there. Oh I remember feeling so grand and so special!

Year: 1997
I had jus completed my O Levels the day before my birthday and along with a few friends went to watch "The Peacemaker" and I had Nachos for the first time in my life!Well back then going to the movies was like once a year thing for me, so I was truly thrilled. Moreover, with the exams out of the way, it was double joy!

Year: 2001
I got 3 separate birthday cakes and 3 separate birthday celebrations with 3 groups of friends! My friends presented me a very precious set of coloured papers and stationary set, along with a book on how to make greeting cards for all occasions.I still treasure that set.

Year: 2002
This was my first surprise party in NTU.I had happily thought I was going to the city with my friends for dinner.I was waiting outside my hostel room and I noticed that many people were making their way to my friend's room, in the opposite block.I jus presumed they were gonna meet my friend's roommate who at that time was running a travel agency. After some time I remember going up to my friend's room and well, everyone shouted "Surprise!" and I actually screamed. What I was really surprised about was that not only were my NTU friends there, they had managed to get in touch with all my other close friends and they had also come!

Year: 2004
I will not forget this one not because of the birthday party but because of what happened before the party. My friends had again organised a surprise party.Only that one them accidently messaged me also about it.So I decided to play along. They had planned that my father would take me out of the house while they could come home n set up everything. Now my father is not the sort of person who goes to temple unless my mom drags him there. So I was very surprised when he told me that he was on his way home to take me to temple. We first drove to one temple then after that he insisted that we go to another one.I found it absolutely ridiculous that my father was driving me from temple to temple so as to buy time for my friends.Ofcourse eventually I came home and was 'surprised'.I had great fun recounting the story to my mom who was out of town at that time.

Year: 2005
This year it was no surprise, I was asked if I was free and told where I was gonna be taken by my dear friends.A lot of my close friends were there.I was very happy because I had never been to Hard Rock cafe before that.I think the most memorable bit would have to be when I gulped down the appletini my friends insisted on ordering for me and then I got all high.I am not much of a drinker and I hadnt touched drinks in a long time cos of exams.Well all in all I loved the cake, the band and my gift!(Thankfully I did not wake up the next day with a hangover)

Its the Season To Be Jolly!

December has finally arrived!Within a month, we will be entering yet another new year.Somehow this month is always filled with parties and gatherings. I jus realised that all my weekends have already been booked! Not forgetting the last 2 weekends of mine which were equally fun filled and memorable. But this is probably the first time I feel like I am going to so many parties.Hey I m not complaining! But more than all this I really need a trip to somewher..which is also in the brewing.

Seriously there could be no better way of ending a year and starting a new one!
