Musings
I know my 'Gua Tempurang--part 2' is now long overdue...its still being written out and is still in draft format. Meanwhile I cant wait for next friday..am counting down days already. I am off to Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam early next saturday morning..sigh its still a week away. I badly need a break..this last month especially has been so maddeningly crazy at work, I din get much Masters work completed and I have been running between three different dance rehearsals for separate shows. I am just waiting to run away from all this..even if its just for a week. I havent had a vacation in 6 months! Wait...I havent had a proper vacation since last july when I was in USA for my cousin's wedding. But most importantly, I am going backpacking in Vietnam with my closest girlfriends...cant wait cant wait cant wait.

Long Lost Friend
It was around 6pm, I was sitting at Starbucks sipping away some hot chai trying to get some of the fatigue off me after a long day of dance class. I was sitting there, constantly looking at my phone, waiting for her call. She was supposed to be there soon. All sorts of thoughts going through my head "what do I say to her? Do I get up? should I jus remain seated?...where do I start? about whn I left India? or should I talk about what I am doing now?"
seriously..all sorts of thoughts.Suddenly, this girl comes and sits in front of me and smiles. I was really stunned, cos I wasnt expecting this to happen so fast, I hadnt cleared my head yet. Panic struck for a quick second.
How the next two hours passed, I dont know!We spoke about everything, from me moving out to Singapore till what happened back in India while I was gone. Basically 13 yrs of stories in 2 hours! There was no inhibition, no awkward silences, it was just two friends separated for 13 yrs, meeting up and continuing a conversation they had left off.It felt good, familiar, someone I can finally share my school day memories with and she wud actually know wat I m talking about!

Prized Possession
Well, this is a story of about 2 years back, when I was graduating from my Bachelors in undergrad. After 4 years, lots of things were gonna change. I knew I would leave hostel and go back to living with my parents, which would mean no late nights, no staying over at friends places, no more going out when I want, etc...I wanted to do something very special for my friends, something that would mark the Convocation.
Basically I ended up mailing and calling parents and friends of my close friends and asked for their childhood snaps. Not everyone sent though...still this is the outcome :)

I printed it out and made a frame and gave one to everyone. One of my most treasured fotos. ( this is the rigged version of the foto)

Orkut Zindabad
something has majorly gone wrong with my blog..everything seems to run out of alignment, and I dont have the time to debug right now.I know I shd look into it soon, alas the day has 24 hrs ony.
Anyways to continue yday's story, thanks to "orkut", I managed to find four of my dear friends from my school in Mumbai.
After my first conversation yday, I just happened to stumble upon another familiar sounding name and I was sure she was my classmate except she looked different. My guess turned out rite!It one thing finding your classmates...its another thing when it is actually a dear friend also. We had a great time getting excited and generally catching up with 13yrs of news! Through her I found out that one of our other friend has settled in Singapore. Since I knew where she worked, I called some friends who had contacts in that office and managed to get her number.
In all my excitement I called her immediately, I wanted to give her a surprise, but thn no one answered. I tried calling many times over a few hours...after sometime I thought "Maybe she is on leave or out of station and doesnt want to be disturbed."
Oh well, I was a little disappointed that I wasnt able to speak to her and dropped her a msg instead, telling her who I was and how I got her number. By the time I reached home, I got a call from her!! We were both jus so excited to finally speak to each other.
The fourth person I got into contact with, also found her on a friend's list...she still looks the same...exactly as I remember her..we were sharing stories and thinking of old times. All of a sudden I started remembering the strangest things, the wierdest incident and all sorts of memories came to me.
End of the day I am four friends richer :)

Blast from the Past?Again?
They say your past catches up with you at some point of time.It happened to me twice this week already. I had spent most of my sunday looking at childhood fotos and talking to my mom about my childhood days. Its nothing new, mom and I have done it many times. There was always something that nagged me. My life in India and my life in Singapore have been very different. Now, having lived equal parts of my life in both countries, I see the clear difference also.My school life in India was fun, it was filled with lots of activities and friends, I used to chatter away to my hearts content (and every teachers' annoyance). I still remember most of my friends and classmates from my school in India.Whereas my secondary school in Singapore, I cant remember too many people from my 4 years!I hated being in the school, I never felt I could fit in. I used to hardly talk much, spent most of my time reading novels.Probably towards Sec 3 and 4 (9th and 10th) it became better and I got aquianted to more people, but it was never the same.
Recently when I was wasting time in office and going through orkut communities, I found that my school in India had a community of its own! On top of that I saw a very familiar picture, of a friend from my class in 5th and 6th. I knew this guy from 1st standard but we were in different classes till 4th. Anyways, I left a scrap on his profile and din hear from him for 2 weeks. One thing I have realised is that when you havent been in touch for 13 yrs, even if you do, people may not always remember you, or so I thought, and forgot about it.It was just that everytime I went back to Bombay I used to pray that I bumped into someone from my class on the road, cinema, somewher! I had left India in such a hurry that I hadnt taken any contact and moreover, internet wasnt known at tt time.
Anyways, this morning, this classmate of mine replied and we had a long chat! He also remembered me and it was so much fun catching up, the best part was I cant believe I havent spoken to him in 13 yrs, it felt so natural and normal. We talked about all sorts of things. I couldnt contain my excitement, I was jus so happy. I was sitting in office in front of my monitor smiling ear to ear, I am sure my labmates must ve thought I have gone mad or sth. But I din care, it was like a dream come true for me...yes yes I do dream of having an alumni party with all my classmates, and meeting up with all of them. Right after that conversation, some of my friends got called by a hyper excited me..jumping away (literally) and screaming into the phone
"guesswatguesswatguesswatguesswat..
Imetaclassmateofmineonorkut...
myprimaryschoolclassmateumoron..
Imsoexcited"
the most common response was "huh??wat was tt?"
Well I dont care! I am so happy I am in touch with a classmate of mine!!!!!Who said 13 was an unlucky number? :D

My first Performance

I happened to find this foto by chance in one of my pile of old fotos..
It was one of my first few performances as a kid.I was around 3 and in nursery school. I remember the steps of this dance and my cousin sister had danced with me wearing a pink ghaghra.Mom and me were laughing away looking at this snap, cos it seems they told me to hold a dance pose, but I used to be (and still am) very camera shy, and I refused to smile cos I was so conscious of my make up and the lipstick :)
