Wedding Stress

No No I am not getting married again. Once was enough..Anyways, a close friend is getting married next week and has been having some anxiety pangs. It got me thinking back to my wedding and all the things that could have gone wrong and all the things that did go wrong!

I learnt during another friend’s wedding that no matter how hard you try, you cant plan everything. There will be things which get missed out, things which were not thought about, or last minute fire fighting. So I learnt that the one thing you must try to do on your wedding day is let things be and just enjoy yourself! I did have fun during my wedding. My friends teased me for being the so calm and cool and not at all freaking out. But it wasn’t as if everything was smooth.

Here are some stories from my wedding:

The Groom side was supposed to arrive two days before the wedding, on the morning of the Mehendi ceremony. They had decided to drive down from Indore to Mumbai because there were 14 of them. On the same morning, Sumit and me were due at the Registry of Marriage to take our vows (even though we did our ROM on our wedding day). The flight was delayed by 2 hours (I found out later it they who casued the delay!), giving Sumit no time to change. He was whisked from the airport to the Registry. There was me, all dressed up in a nice red sari, with all the accessories my mom insisted I wear, because I had come half way thru the pooja that was happening at home. There was Sumit, who came in a white tshirt which had turned brown because he had been on the road for more then 24 hours and then taken a flight to Singapore. There was the lady who made us take our vows, with the confused expression on her face. Priceless!

Sumit’s family is not really known for being punctual, actually neither is mine. So we had given them super advance notice and given them wrong times for events in hope that they wouldn’t miss anything. But then the groom’s entire family decides to go sight seeing the day before the wedding and is not home by midnite, it does cause some tension. Especially when its an early morning wedding and you know no one is an early riser except you! So I was woken up at 3.30am and sent off to the wedding hall, so as to not tense the rest of the family. Sumit did turn up (Thank God) just about half hour late. My family and most of my friends din get any sleep as they were busy all thru the nite. The rest of Sumit’s family came in as they got ready. But it turned out that the priest had given us the wrong time! So all our guests were on there but the wedding was gonna start much later.

My wedding was in Singapore, so there were many restrictions and we had to find economical work arounds. I did make many mistakes in the process. Things I wish I had done differently when I think back to it. I also realized that you should just let your friends and family help you run the show, and you cannot be running around for everything.
